The Courant d’Huchet is without doubt one of the most beautiful natural settings in Landes. Situated between the Lac de Léon and the beaches at Moliets, it acts as a cord linking the lake with the ocean. The Nature Reserve has been established around the mouth of the river of the same name. This natural beauty spot is host to some exceptional fauna and flora. Visitors who seize the opportunity to venture this way will be treated to landscapes of breathtaking beauty.
There are several ways for visitors to explore this magnificent corner of the Gulf of Gascony, including on foot and by bicycle along dedicated trails, by boat, or even by canoe. Once you’ve left the lake behind, you will discover floating marshlands and remarkable botanical treasures. The virgin forest is also home to a hidden and precious natural abundance.
Guided tours will allow you to discover the Courant d’Huchet Nature Reserve’s most beautiful nooks and crannies. Boat tours are also available, and are the main mode for guided tours in the reserve. It is, however, possible to venture through freely at your own pace.
Should you opt for this, feel free to head further upstream in order to savour the scenery that lies behind the dunes.
Further along can be found exotic vegetation that is, quite simply, incredible.
